In case of a rainstorm, flood and

landslide, how to save yourself?

Since the flood season began, many places

have been hit by heavy rainfall. A rainstorm

not only affects people's work and life, but

also induces geological disasters. How to

prevent risks in flood season? Keep in

mind the following knowledge about flood

control:

Learn about early warning information

Before a rainstorm arrives, relevant

departments will issue early warning

signals to the public. The signals are

divided into four levels in ascending

order of degree, which are indicated

by blue, yellow, orange and red

respectively. To prepare for severe

weather such as heavy rainfall in flood

season, you shall know related

information in advance.

How to drive safely in a rainstorm?

When it rains heavily and the driving

sight distance is less than 150 meters,

a driver on an expressway shall slow

down, turn on the hazard warning

flasher, and preferably drive into a

nearby service area as soon as possible.

When there is ponding on an

expressway surface, whose depth is

difficult to identify, a driver shall not

depress the brake hastily, but hold the

steering wheel firmly and release the

accelerator pedal to let the vehicle pass

through the ponding by itself.

When the water splashed by a vehicle

ahead falls on the windshield of a

moving vehicle, a driver shall keep on

driving along the original route.

What not to do in thunder and lightning weather?

Top "five don'ts": do not open doors and

windows; do not turn on electrical

appliances; do not shelter from the rain

under trees or poles; do not stay at

elevated areas such as mountain tops

and rooftops; do not touch metal such as

lightning rods on the wall.

Avoid using umbrellas with metal

handles, and avoid holding umbrellas

under electrical facilities.

Try not to stay near the water surface;

try to take shelter in low-lying areas and

avoid using electronic products such as

telephones and headphones; avoid

riding outdoors.

What to do in case of a flood?

After a mountain torrent disaster occurs,

the first thing is to carry out self-rescue

and transfer or take refuge according to

the predetermined route.

If a flood comes so fast that it is

impossible to transfer on foot, boats or

floating objects such as door planks

and wooden beds shall be used as tools

fly climb onto the roof, wall or nearby

big trees for temporary shelter, waiting

for rescue personnel.

Note: Mud walls, mud houses with

rammed earth walls or brick-wall

houses with mud seams can only be

used as temporary shelters.

How to save yourself from landslides?

Evacuate to a safer area. It is best to run

toward either side. Do not run along the

path of a landslide.

Never choose a refuge site uphill or

downhill of a landslide.

When there is a high-speed landslide so

that it is unlikely to run away, you shall

quickly hold fixed objects such as

nearby trees, or hide under strong

obstacles. Remember to protect your

head.

Under the condition of ensuring safety,

it is better to be as close as possible to

your original residence, where the

transportation, water source and power

supply are more convenient.

What to do in case of debris flow?

When hiking along a valley:

Immediately climb up the slopes on

either side in a direction perpendicular

to the debris flow, and never go

downstream of the debris flow.

When traveling: Immediately discard

heavy luggage, choose a safe route to

escape, and bring communication tools

to contact the outside world for help.

You may choose a nearby area with

dense trees to escape, but should not

climb the tree.
