Preface

前  言

Spring is the blooming season, full of 

lush and green vegetation. Wenjiang 

enjoys an excellent natural environment. 

It is named for "four warm and moist 

rivers running through", with an elegant 

name of "willow city" in ancient times. 

In spring, Wenjiang is full of vitality. 

The river water and green plants are 

intertwined and fragrant everywhere.

万物生发时,草木知春来。温江自然环境优越,以四河穿流、江水温润而得名,古时又称柳城。春天的温江水绿交融、移步闻香、生机盎然。

In addition, the spring was recorded 

and collected in a museum. Ancient 

calligraphers and painters have written 

or painted willow trees, swallows, 

butterflies, and scenery in spring. We 

can still feel the breath of the past spring 

from the unfolding paintings and 

calligraphy.

除此,另有一片藏在博物馆里的春天。古代书画家曾将春天的柳树、燕子、蝴蝶、山水诉诸笔端、绘于纸绢。推开画卷,我们仍能从中感受到当年春的气息。

In the next month, Wenjiang District 

Foreign Affairs Office and Wenjiang 

District Museum will move the online 

exhibition "Spring in Full Bloom with 

Paintings – Spring in Ancient Painting 

and Calligraphy" to the section "HOME 

IN WENJIANG", showing you 16 fine 

paintings related to "Spring" collected 

by Wenjiang District Museum in four 

sessions.

在接下来的1个月里,区外事办联合区文体旅局、区博物馆,将“春有百花花有画古人画笔里的春天”云展,搬至“HOME IN WENJIANG”栏目,分4期为您呈现16幅与“春天”有关的区博馆藏精品画作。

Chapter I New Willows    
第一章·柳树新

The artist painted three willows in the 

upper part of the painting, and under the 

trees, there is a man in red riding a horse 

with a whip in one hand. The brushwork 

of willow trunk is neat, delicate and 

unrestrained. The artist sketched the 

outline with fine strokes, then rendered 

it with ink, and painted the willow 

branches in green. The artist outlined the 

horse with a single line, uses fine, round 

and strong strokes. Through layers of 

rendering, the artist applied light elegant 

and calm color to make the fur texture 

especially realistic. The horse galloped 

on all fours, seemingly trying to break 

free from the reins. The man in red 

grabbed the horse's lasso with his left 

hand and waved his whip with his right 

hand, both in form and in spirit. The 

painting has no inscription, but only 

two seals in vermilion on the lower right 

side, respectively "Wujun" and "Duanxiu 

Seal".
上部画柳树三株,树下画一红衣男子握鞭策马,柳树树干用笔工整细秀,运笔潇洒,先用细笔勾勒轮廓,再用水墨渲染,柳枝为绿色。马为单线勾出,用笔工细圆劲,层层渲染,敷色轻雅而沉着,皮毛质感尤其逼真,四蹄奔腾,似想挣脱缰绳,红衣男子左手抓住马套,右手挥鞭,形神兼备。无款识,仅在下部右侧有朱文印两方,分别是午君端秀印

It is a water-and-ink color painting. There 

are two willow branches on the painting, 

on which six sparrows are chirping and 

two are fluttering aside. The artist depicts 

the branches with the powder coating 

method and the hair and feathers with 

the half-dry stroke, which is meticulous, 

fascinating and vivid. The high branches 

of the willow are colored with thick 

strokes, creating a contrast of thickness 

and movement. The painting style is 

simple and unrestrained, and the colors 

are bright and elegant, forming a delicate, 

bright and clear tone of brushwork 

technique. The inscription reads:

 "Dedicated to Feng Yuan, the 9th day 

of the 7th month of the lunar year of 

1892, by Bi Yingtao". At the end of the 

inscription is a special-shaped seal carved 

in intaglio reading "Painted by Bi Yingtao 

from Lianzhou". There is a square seal 

with red lettering reading "Home in 

Hanjia" on the left side of the lower part.

水墨设色。画6只麻雀栖鸣柳枝头,2只翻飞在旁,画折枝垂柳2枝。枝干用撞粉法,用干笔勾皴毛羽,精细入微,毫发毕现,情趣生动,柳枝高枝用粗笔勾染,通过粗细、动静的对比。笔墨趋于简逸放纵,设色明净淡雅,形成兼工带写明快清丽的格调。款署:丰垣仁史大人法政,壬辰秋九,弟毕映涛。款尾白文异形印,莲州毕映涛画。左下角朱文方印家在汉嘉城里

A water-and-ink landscape painting. The 

painting adopts the traditional three-

distance composition method. In the 

distance, a green mountain hides in the 

cloud and mist, where the slope and 

stones are painted mainly with hemp-

fiber shading. Thick ink makes moss 

with dots in dark red and light ink makes 

small jungles by horizontally dotting. 

Four thatched huts are staggered and 

hidden in the willows of the valley. In 

the middle lens, weeping willows and 

gurgling streams are coupled with a 

small bridge over the stream, creating 

a balance of dynamics and quietness. 

Three weeping willows standing in the 

tranquil landscape are much closer to a 

corner of the hillside where a boat 

floating in the middle of the stream 

carries a lonely fisherman. Vast space 

in the painting creates a poetic beauty. 

The picture is bright and elegant with 

proper techniques. On the right side of 

the upper part, there are two lines of 

sixteen characters in semi-cursive script, 

saying "Fishing alone by a creek with 

willows. Painted in the summer of the 

18th year of the Guangxu period of the 

Qing Dynasty (1892). By Bao Ruxie, or 

Bao Bicheng." A square squeal follows 

this with red lettering reading "Bicheng". 

Bao is famous for his calligraphy in 

Bashu and seldom paints something. 

Thus this piece is of great value for 

studying his painting and 

calligraphy.
水墨设色山水图。画面采取传统的三远构图法,远处云雾间青山一株,山石坡角多用披麻皴,浓墨点苔后施以赭色,淡墨横点作小树丛林,四间茅屋错落掩隐于山谷柳林处。中景、垂柳依依,溪水潺潺,小桥横跨于溪涧之上,动静相宜。近处山坡一隅,用枯笔皴画三株垂柳于幽静的山涧之间,一叶孤舟,飘荡于江心,一翁独钓。水天空阔,格富诗意。画面设色清丽淡雅,用笔苍润。上部右侧有行书款二行十六字曰“柳溪独钓。光绪十八年夏为。弼臣包汝谐。”款尾有朱文方印“弼臣”。包汝谐以法书闻名巴蜀,鲜有画作,故此幅作品对于研究包汝谐书画艺术具有重要价值。

A freehand water-and-ink painting. In 

the painting, several green willows stand 

around the lake with lush aquatic plants. 

Four egrets forage in the lake, one of 

which flies in the air. There are several 

dense willow trees in the front row on 

the right side and huts on the back which 

are set up near the shore. In one hut, a 

scholar holds a book with both hands 

absorbed in reading in front of the side 

window. The charming willows consist 

of old stems and tender branches both 

with thick and thin strokes that are slow 

and continuous yet soft and rigid without 

sharpness to produce fluffy and 

changeable leaves. Another few strokes 

vividly outline the different shapes of 

the birds. As for the character, it's 

depicted with fine strokes in light ink to 

sketch the contours of the face, whose 

clothes are concisely lined with an iron 

yet gentle brush. Well-trained techniques 

accurately describe all the elements 

therein. The inscription is "Painted after 

the painting method of Zhao Danian for 

Master Jieping by Sun Qingshi". Ended 

with a square seal with red intaglio 

reading "Stamped by Sun Qingshi" and a 

square seal with red lettering reading 

"Juren". This painting is a large-size one 

of Sun Qingshi's, a rare masterpiece.

水墨写意。画环湖绿柳数株,湖中水草茂盛,鹭鸟四只正于湖中觅食,湖面鹭鸟一只,翱翔空中,右侧前排画茂密柳树数株,后有草屋数间,临岸而设,一屋内一高士双手捧书,侧座窗前凝神读书。画柳体态妩媚,柳干苍老而柳条柔嫩,条粗中有细,不露锋芒,笔缓势连,柔中带刚,叶蓬松富有变化;画鸟寥寥数笔,勾勒出鸟的形态各异,情趣生动;画人物细笔淡墨勾勒面部,衣纹用简练铁笔线描,用笔柔劲,出入轻重分明,造型准确而传神。款署仿赵大年画法,为阶平老夫子大人雅政,孙清士写。铃朱白文方印孙清士印,朱文方印菊人。此幅图尺幅较大,画法老到,属孙清士真迹,是难得的一见绘画精品。
